Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tunison Funeral Home on Oct. 16, 2025.
Johanna T. Sheeran, of Hermance Road, Galway, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old.
Born on April 2, 1931, in Abbeyfeale, County Limerick, Ireland, Johanna grew up in a large, close-knit Irish family. In 1963, she and her beloved husband Patrick made the courageous decision to emigrate from Ireland to the United States with five of their children, seeking a better life and more opportunities for their growing family. They first settled in College Point, NY before making their home in Galway, NY.
Johanna was the heart of her family - a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. She took immense pride in creating a warm and welcoming home where her children always felt safe, supported, and deeply loved. Her life was one of quiet strength, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to her family. A devout Catholic, Johanna was an active member of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman, NY, and gave much of her time to various church ministries, including the Lazarus Group. Her faith was a guiding light in her life and a source of comfort to many around her.
She found joy in the simple pleasures - knitting warm gifts for loved ones, baking in which she was famous for her Irish Soda bread and her apple pies, tending to her garden, and most of all, spending precious time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her warmth, compassion, and gentle spirit will be missed beyond measure.
Johanna was predeceased by her beloved husband Patrick Sheeran (2004), her cherished sons Patrick and Daniel Sheeran, her granddaughter Helena Sheeran and several of her brothers.
She is survived by her devoted children: Bridget (late Jim) Wallace, Bill (Eileen) Sheeran, Declan (Lorraine) Sheeran, Eamon (Lynn) Sheeran, and Michael (Kendra) Sheeran; her loving daughter-in-law Bridget Sheeran; her adored grandchildren: Tom (Lisa) Wallace, Jim Wallace, Joanna Wallace, Hannah Sheeran, Danielle Sheeran, Eileen Sheeran, Fiona Sheeran, Emma Sheeran, Patrick Sheeran, Megan Sheeran, Connor Sheeran, Daniel Sheeran, Gracie Sheeran, and Margaret Sheeran; and her treasured great-grandchildren: Parker Wallace, Maeve Wallace, Hudson Wallace, and Owen Wallace. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 17th at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, 51 South Pawling Street, Hagaman, NY 12086. Family and friends may call on Thursday, October 16th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Tunison Funeral Home, 105 Lake Avenue,
