John Wayne Alberty transitioned peacefully on March 21, 2025, at the age of 97. Born in 1927 on Mt. Nebo in Checotah, OK, John 's life was a testament to perseverance and

dedication.

At just 13, John left home to forge his own path, soon mastering the operation of heavy machinery through sheer determination and hard work. In 1945, he became the youngest man ever in California to join the International Union of Operating Engineers, he was 17.

John later settled in Wellton, where he ran his own land leveling business, providing invaluable services to farmers throughout the Yuma and Wellton-Mohawk valleys. It was there he met and married Theresa "Tess" Runge in 1965.

Around 1970, John and Tess pursued their dream of having their own farm. They leased land from CRIT near Parker, AZ, and embarked on a fulfilling farming venture. John cleared the land of mesquite trees, installed irrigation, and began growing Bermuda and

alfalfa. The couple spent 25 happy years on the farm, often reminiscing that those were the best years of their lives.

John's generosity and warm spirit touched many lives. He cherished visits from friends and family, always had wonderful stories to tell, and enjoyed taking road trips with Tess. In his final years, John devoted himself to caring for Tess when she fell ill, demonstrating his unwavering commitment and compassion. Theresa passed away just weeks before John, highlighting his devotion and love.

John's legacy is one of strength and integrity. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A graveside service will be held as John is laid to rest in Wellton Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025 at 11:30 am.
