John Arendas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lohman Funeral Home Port Orange on Apr. 13, 2023.
--John S. ARENDAS passed away on April 10 at the age of 91. A Daytona Beach resident for 30 years, John was born on November 8, 1931 in Mercer, PA. He relocated to Ohio where he spent his career as a Master Tool and Dye Maker for General Motors before moving to Daytona Beach in 1993.
No one who knew John failed to enjoy his sense of humor, infectious smile or kindness. He enjoyed swimming, biking, playing the guitar and singing, and was very active in the various churches to which he belonged.
John loved animals of all types. He missed his dogs but enjoyed his "grand-dogs", Carlo, Angus and Lila. He found great pleasure in watching the raccoons, otters, birds, turtles and ducks that frequented the pond in John's back yard, particularly the broods of babies in Spring.
In 1956 John married Dorothy Murray in Ohio, with whom he moved to Daytona Beach in 1993. They enjoyed 49 years together before Dorothy passed away in April, 2005.
In September, 2007, John married Hilda Whicker, with whom he enjoyed 12 years together before Hilda's passing in June, 2020.
John is predeceased by his parents, Stephen Arendas and Rose Liscinsky of Hojivoka, Czechoslovakia, his sister Ann of Palma, OH and Rosemary of Buffalo Grove, IL, and his brother Josef of Zvolenska Slatina, Slovakia.
John is survived by his step children, Fred Albert and wife, Peg, of St. Petersburg, FL, and step daughter, Patti Vickery, of Port Orange, all of whom miss him terribly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Halifax Hospice Center, Port Orange.
A celebration of John's life will be held April 19, 11:00 AM at Lohman's Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Ave., Port Orange, with public visitation preceding the celebration at 10: 00 AM.
A brief burial service will take place following the service at Volusia Memorial Gardens, 548 N Nova Rd., Ormond Beach.
