, was born October 20, 1937, in Saltillo, Pennsylvania, to Paul Lorraine Ashman and Anna LaRue Kimmel. He married the love of his life, Bertha (Berty) Elizabeth Hicks on July 11, 1959. When they became one, they remained as such for the next 64 years to the day. Sadly, John passed on the night of their 64th wedding anniversary, July 11, 2023, in Milford, Delaware. He was 85 years old.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the mountains of western Pennsylvania where he and his brothers, son and nephews built a small hunting cabin 'Camp Valley Point' that continues to be a gathering place for family fun and outdoor sporting.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army from January 4, 1956, to December 4, 1958. John later became a paid Firefighter for the city of York, Pennsylvania, where he received recognition for saving lives multiple times. He ended his long working career at Martin's Potato Chips in Thomasville, Pennsylvania.
John is survived by his loving wife, Berty; his children, Christine (and Adam) Wattay, John (and Lisa) Ashman; grandchildren, Breanna Krasnasky, Amity Lesniewski, Kory Krasnasky, Quinton Ashman and Sedona Ashman; sisters, Betty Bollinger and Linda (and Jim) Spencer; and sister-in-law, Midge Ashman.
He was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Ed, Dick, Sigel and Butch; and sisters Mary, Joann and Margaret.
Private services will be held for the immediate family at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware. A Celebration of Life for family and friends is planned at a later date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to:

· -U.S. Veterans
· -American Cancer Society
