John Edward Baird, 76, concluded his story on April 16, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son, and friend to all. John was born May 30, 1947 to Louis and Margaret Baird. He was born and raised in Durango and grew up on the ranch his family owned. He graduated from Durango High School in 1965 and Fort Lewis College with a bachelors in History in 1969. He married in 1971, to Elaine Berry. John enjoyed working with his hands, telling stories, meeting new people, and knew every road in Colorado. He was a well known member of the community through his many occupations and avocations, volunteering at the VFW, and as a volunteer firefighter. John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dan.

John is survived by: his wife Elaine, sons Kegan (Christine) Baird and Shane Baird, grandsons Kallen and Aedan Baird, siblings Larry (Karla) Baird, Leo Baird, Dennis ”Dewey” (Sharon) Baird, Mary (Kyle) Payne, Ellen (Carey) Williams, and numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with the family’s wishes, there will not be a funeral. Instead, his family and friends will remember him with love and countless memories of joy and stories he brought to their lives. A memorial will be held later this year with close friends and family.
