John Irwin Baptist, 74, passed away peacefully January 2nd, 2026. He was born April 7th, 1951 in Iola, KS to Glenn and Merle (Myers) Baptist.
John graduated from Wellington High School in 1970, upon graduation he enlisted in The United States Navy, where he served 2 years. He was stationed at Midway Island as a minesweeper on the U.S.S. Loyalty.
He was an avid bowler, participating in numerous National Tournaments in Las Vegas, Reno, and Nashville. He also enjoyed woodwork, cycling, swimming and sitting down and watching all his favorite sports teams. Joys of life were his family, especially his grandson Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Baptist; mother, Merle Baptist; son, Matthew W. Baptist; and two half brothers, Bill Locke and Dick Locke.
John is survived by his wife, Janet Baptist; son, Curtis (Veronica Delacruz) Baptist; grandson; Matthew G. Baptist; brother, Micheal Baptist; sisters, Susie (Les) Jacobs; Kathy Baptist; and half sister, Joyce (Willie) Hernandez along with various nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends.
John was joyful, funny, kind, and playful. He enjoyed meeting new people and treated all strangers as family. John's life was full of love. He will be truly missed.

A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at Cornejo Funeral Home & Crematory, 1030 Mission Road, Wellington, Kansas, 67152 on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 10:00 am. Internment will take place at a later date.
