John Barber Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home - Farmington on Mar. 28, 2023.
John, of Farmington, former South Farmington Baseball President & Commissioner, passed into eternal life unexpectedly on Sunday evening, March 26, 2023, at Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills. He was 64 years old.
John was born February 25, 1959, in Michigan, to the late Frank and Laura (Slusser) Barber. He attended Beahan Junior High in Farmington and then graduated from Farmington High School in 1977. He earned his degree in Finance from Central Michigan University in 1982, and enjoyed a long and prosperous career with Botsford and then Beaumont Hospitals in accounting. On September 15, 1990, he married Anna L. (Tomanovich) in Farmington Hills.
John grew up playing Little League baseball and after his playing days were over, he continued to volunteer his time with Farmington Little League where he served in numerous capacities - coach, manager, Board of Directors member, president, and commissioner. John's other hobbies included music and attending concerts (400 to be exact), especially rock and roll. He was an avid gardener, loved bingo and going to Mt. Pleasant, and sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and Lions. He enjoyed life and his friends to the fullest. Above all, he was a devoted family man. His wife, children, and siblings meant the world to him and superseded all else. May his kind, loving and hardworking soul rest in peace.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 32 years, Anna; children, Michael Barber and Brittany (Tim) Baker; granddaughter, Josie Baker; siblings, Judith (Michael) McMahon, Frank (Marie) Barber Jr., and Joanne (Dennis) Griffin; and an enormous circle of friends. John was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amy Sue, in 1993.
The Barber family will receive guests at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington, on Wednesday, March 29, from 1-7 pm. John's funeral ceremony will conclude the visiting hours at 7:00 pm.
In lieu of customary remembrances, those who wish to further honor John's life are invited to contribute to South Farmington Baseball & Softball.
Kindly keep John and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
