John W. Barbey, 74 was called to his eternal rest on April 22, 2024. John was born in Yonkers NY on August 3,1949. He was the son of the late John and Joan Barbey. John grew up in Dobbs Ferry NY and was very active in sports; playing both high school baseball and football. He graduated high school and attended Ithaca University. In 1994, John married Lisa Cerniglia, the love of his life. They resided in Rhinebeck NY with his 2 step children Brandon and Amanda. As John would often say, these were the happiest times of his life. He loved being married and being a father to Brandon and Amanda. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last and they divorced in 2003. They remained close after the divorce. John then moved to Walden NY where he lived the rest of his life. During that time John retired from his career at the US Postal Service.
John was a charmer and had the gift of gab. He was genuinely a nice person and would help anyone who needed it. Growing up in the sixties he was a big fan of Rock and Roll and of course attended Woodstock with his sister and many friends. John also loved attending and watching or listening to the Yankees. He was a huge sports fan and also loved the New York Giants. John played a lot of softball in his 20's and 30's and started playing golf in his 40's. He became addicted to the game and there was nothing more pleasurable to him than being on the golf course with his family and friends. John also was introduced to the Outer Banks of North Carolina as a child as his parents started going there in the late 40s and early 50s. He would say his favorite place in the world was the beach. John also was a lover of all living things and his cat Mickey was his constant companion.
John was predeceased by his mother Joan Barbey, his father John Barbey and his sister Laura Barbey. John is survived by his brother Pete Barbey and his wife Maureen of Pearl River NY. His ex wife Lisa Cerniglia of Clinton Corners NY, His Stepson Brandon and Kate Cerniglia and their daughter Maia of Rhinebeck NY. His stepdaughter Amanda and her husband Brian Roller and their children Derek and Quinn of Salt Point NY.
