John William Barton, Jr. October 2, 1957 – June 19, 2025
John William Barton, Jr., 67, of Willard, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025. He was born October 2, 1957, to John and Florence Barton in Springfield, Missouri.
John was a faithful member of Fruitland Road Church, where he found strength in his faith and community. He lived a life dedicated to service and compassion, notably volunteering at the Grand Oak Mission Center. John spent much of his time there and will be missed dearly by those he served alongside. He made many friends at Grand Oak Mission Center and will be remembered fondly by the organization for his warm presence and steady commitment.
John served in the National Guard for twelve years as an aircraft electrician. He was proud of his time in service and carried the values of dedication and hard work throughout his life. After leaving the military, he became a skilled carpenter, finding fulfillment in building things with care and craftsmanship.
Of all John's accomplishments, he was most proud of his son, Andrew. He spoke of him often and with deep admiration. John's example inspired Andrew to follow in his footsteps-both in serving his country, and in pursuing a career as a carpenter.
John enjoyed working with his hands and took pride in building things-especially when it was for someone he cared about. Whether a practical fix or a thoughtful project, he was happiest when creating something useful and lasting for others.
John's absence will be felt by many, and his example will not be forgotten.
John is survived by his son, Andrew Barton; his brother, David Barton; and his sisters, Sara Miller, Mary McConnell, and Carolyn Swearengin.
He was preceded in death by his father, John William Barton, Sr.; his mother, Florence E. Barton; his sisters, Linda Hampton and Alice Henry; and his brother, Jimmy Staton.
A celebration of life will be held July 12th at 11am at Fruitland Road Church, 9925 N Farm Road 173, Fair Grove, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grand Oak Mission-or consider volunteering there in honor of John. gbaptist.org/grand-oak
