Brady, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectantly on June 14 after a long struggle with mental illness.
Brady had a strong Christian faith his entire life. His passions were spending time with his family, including summers at the Benson Fish Camp on Lake Superior. Many of those years were spent captaining the family sailboat 'Tigerpaw' around the Apostle Islands.
Brady was the oldest of four boys. He was known as John to his family and relatives so as not to confuse John with his father, John 'Brady' Benson. As the eldest, he spent time teaching his younger brothers all manner of things, good and bad, and helping his mother, Kathleen, manage the household growing up. He proved to be a wonderful big brother to Tom, David, and Michael.
Brady graduated high school in 1981 from Minnehaha Academy, followed by a Business Degree from UW-Stout in 1986. After college, he moved to Chicago and worked on the Futures and Options Exchange floor as a Trader before becoming an options analyst for Dean Witter. Brady then returned to Minneapolis and continued with Morgan Stanley-Dean Witter. He worked closely with his father and brother Mike as a financial advisor. Brady was successful in every professional endeavor he pursued. After working as a recruiter for several years, he left to start a business of his own. He spent the past eleven years building AquaMedix from the ground up.
In Chicago, through friends, he met his wife, Michelle. They married on the shores of Lake Michigan in 1991. Brady and Michelle spent time traveling extensively, to Europe, sailing in the Caribbean, visiting southern states, and skiing out West. After five years of marriage, they settled in Bloomington, MN, and started a family. Their first child John Brady Benson III 'Jack,' was born in 1996. Followed by William in 1998 and Lily in 2004. His children were the joy of his life.
Brady dedicated his life to working for and spending time with his family. He enjoyed either coaching, volunteering, or attending countless sporting games and practices. He taught and passed along his knowledge of sailing, boat & house maintenance, business & work ethic to many. Family trips were invaluable for creating lifelong memories and bonding with his wife and children. He learned to fix things at an early age and loved to do so throughout his life. He passed this trait along to his children, especially Jack. He was wonderful with and enjoyed the presence of kids. He enjoyed hosting, whether it was family, friends, or the neighborhood families getting together. His door was open to anyone, and he often knocked (or just walked in) on others' doors to say hi. He loved to show off his elaborate dance moves when he was feeling the music, exuberating his goofy and childlike energy.
Brady will be immensely missed by his Family, friends, and many others. He will always be known as a friendly and welcoming man. Those wishing to express their love for John and support for the family are encouraged to send memorials to The John Brady Benson Memorial Fund at Highland Bank, 5270 W 84th St, Bloomington, MN 55437

What a lovely tribute to a kind and gentle man. He was so welcoming when I returned to MN 3 years ago and had the biggest heart of anyone I have ever known. He took such pride in his equally as kind and giving family. Being related to him only made it better. He is missed by my little family as I am certain he is missed 100 fold by y'all. You're in my thoughts and prayers daily. Susan, Sam, and Sophie Fox.
