John D. Bentley, born on March 27, 1956, in Okinawa, Japan, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2025, at his residence. A proud veteran, John served for 20 years in the United States Army, dedicating his life to his country and exemplifying a strong sense of duty and honor.
Throughout his life, John was known for his love of Nascar, closely following the journeys of drivers such as Dale Earnhardt Sr., Chase Elliot, and Tony Stewart. He had a passion for fishing and cherished the moments spent with family, creating lasting memories that will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 25 years, Audrey Heath Bentley, and children: Adam Kirby (Mary Sue), Elizabeth Biard (Michael), Stephani Bentley, Charles Bentley (Catalina), Theresa Bentley, William Bentley, and Carey Robinson. John was a proud grandfather to his grandchildren: Destiney, Jordan, Xaviar, Candice, Harley, Christian, Johnathan, Alexander, Lily, Alejandro, Cecila, Estrella, and Rosalyn.
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Carey Pryor Bentley and his brother Robert "Bobby" Bentley.
A funeral service to celebrate John's life will be held on Wednesday September 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Benson Funeral & Cremation, located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC with the Rev William "Will" Breast officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place with Full Military Honors on Thursday Sept. 4 at 11:00 AM at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC.
