John Bergman Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 30, 2026.
John Dixon Bergman, a resident of White Cliffs in Plymouth and Sarasota, Florida, died peacefully on Sunday, March 29, surrounded by his dear family.

He was the beloved husband of Terry Hamilton, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage. Together they built a life filled with love, art, adventure and laughter.

He was born in 1938, the only son of Ruth and Hugo Bergman of Newton. He attended Union College, and shared many stories about his time on the football and wrestling teams. He served as President of Air Incorporated and went on to start Dixon Associates, where he created advertising and marketing campaigns for engineering companies. He also attended Yale Art School.

Dixon was a loving father to Mark Bergman and his wife Micki, and Diana Cassidy and her husband Brian. He was predeceased by his son Dixon Jr.,and was a proud grandfather to Kyle Cassidy.

He was also a cherished stepfather and grandfather to his extended family, including Shelly Seifken and her husband Bob, Angela Brown, Brooke and Don McDonough, Bobby and Julie Hamilton. He was affectionately known as Moo Fa to Luke, Shea, Kevin, and Bobby.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his larger-than-life presence and his passion for his artwork. As an artist, his work spans music-themed visuals, tactile creations for the visually impaired, innovative shotgun shell art, and intricate printed circuit board designs. He considered himself a "constructionist." His work has been exhibited with numerous regional art associations in both Florida and Massachusetts. The Light, Space & Time Online Gallery listed him among the "Top 25 3D Artists to watch." Internationally his art is installed at the FIVE Zurich Hotel in Lake Zurich. He was also a master wordworker, he took great pride in creating beautiful, handcrafted furniture. He recently expanded his art to a TikTok audience with help from his grandson Kyle.

Dixon and Terry were world travelers, and explored Italy, France, Ireland, Iceland, London, Russia and Peru. (Italy was their favorite.) From their travels, they loved to collect recipes. Dixon was a gourmet cook, bringing people together for dinner parties and celebrations. His St. Patrick's Day parties and Thanksgiving meals were legendary. Mechanically inclined, he could fix just about anything and often helped out and fixed things for his friends and neighbors.

Among his many other interests he was a die-hard Boston sports fan, with season tickets to the Red Sox and Patriots games.

Dixon was full of life and always up for fun. He approached life with gratitude and enthusiasm. He had a friendly and caring spirit, a genuine interest in others, and a desire to always be a part of the solution. His kindness and love set him apart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Services will be private.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Cranberry Hospice through Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth at giving.bilh.org, or by calling 508-830-2420.
