It is with immense sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, John D. Bert.
John passed away at home on October 30, 2025. He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Ruth and John Bert Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John. He is survived by his sister, Ellen; his wife, Carol; his children, Mary, John, Craig and Douglas; his grandson Aaron; son-in-law, Kenneth and daughter-in-law, YeoJeong.
He met his wife, Carol, during their time in the military (he, an Air Force Engineer; she an Army nurse) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were married for 61 years, living in New Mexica, Washington state and mostly Colorado.
John was a mechanical engineer by trade and an outdoor and railroad enthusiast by passion. He enjoyed hiking in the Colorado Rocky Mountains (having climbed most of the Fourteeners), building model railroads from scratch, restoring old cars, gardening, as well as building 2 houses, furniture and cabinetry.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him for his subtle sense of humor and calm demeanor.
In lieu of flowers we would appreciate a donation in John’s honor to The American Heart Association, The BrightFocus Foundation for muscular degeneration research; any suicide prevention program or any charity that you feel passionate about.
