Mr. John V. Bertram, 80, of Mendon MA died Thursday (April 24, 2025) at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Susan J. (DeLorenzo) Bertram.

John was born in Edinburgh Scotland, the son of the late John Bertram and the late Dorothy E. (Fowler) Bertram. He was a graduate of Santa Ana CA High School and later received his bachelor's degree from California State University-Fulerton in California.

John was a Viet Nam era veteran of the US Army, serving from 1965 to 1967.

Following his service in the US Army John was first employed as a guard for the US Federal Prison System working in the state of Washington. He later became a Pre-Release Co-ordinator for the US Federal Prison System, working in New York. Following that he was employed as an inventory control specialist for the Puma Sporting Goods Company, working out of the Framingham MA offices. And from 1986 to 2016 he served as bookkeeper at the former Varney Bros. Sand & Gravel Company.

John had been a resident of Mendon MA for the past 38 years and prior to that had resided in Framingham MA, Orange County CA, Chicago IL and Hamilton Ontario Canada.

John was an avid reader and also loved fishing & working on his house. He also was an avid sportsfan, especially all the New England sports teams. John also had an artistic side, where he loved trying his hand at his own artwork and also enjoyed going to art exhibits & listening to music. But his favorite past time was spending time with his beloved family members & many friends.

Along with his beloved wife of 42 years, he is survived by his 2 children: John William Bertram of Mendon MA and Margaret Mary "Meg" Robins and her husband David Robins of Baltimore MD; his 3 granddaughters: Hazel Robins, Clara Robins & Rosalie Robins of Baltimore MD; his 2 sisters: Lisa Dachenhauser and her husband Wally Dachenhauser of Prescott AZ and Jenny Strickland and her husband Rick Strickland of Laguna Hills CA; also 14 brothers & sisters-in-law; 26 nieces & nephews and many dear friends.

In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place. Relatives & friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on FRIDAY October 17th at 10:30am at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 151 Mendon Street, Upton MA. A Graveside Committal Service, with Military Honors, will follow at Quaker Cemetery, George Street in Mendon MA. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
