John C. Blaum, 79, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away at the Oak Ridge Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Taylor.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late Carl and Josephine Harchik Blaum. John was a 1964 graduate of St. Nicholas High School. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967. Following his military service, John graduated from Penn State Wilkes-Barre, with his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He was later employed by PPL Electric Utilities.
John was a deeply religious man and devout Catholic. He was a member of St. Nicholas-St. Mary Parish in Wilkes-Barre. John loved to play his guitar and write his own music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Lawrence; brothers, Charles and Joseph Blaum; and sister, Dorothy Ann St. John.
John is survived by his sister, Carol Butler and her husband, Stephen, Finksburg, Md.; brother, Frank Blaum, Wilkes-Barre; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, June 28, 2025, from Nat Gawlas Jordan Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Deacon William Behm will officiate. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Shavertown.
A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (In Memo Behavioral Health 8070), 1111 East End Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711.
