KULPMONT - John Bogush Jr., 92, of Kulpmont, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Grandview Nursing and Rehabilitation, in Danville.
He was born in Kulpmont, Feb. 9, 1932, a son of the late John and Julia (Monlish) Bogush.
John graduated from Kulpmont High School, in 1949.
On July 28, 1956, he married Gloria Wagner at Transfiguration Church, in Shamokin, officiated by the Rev.d Michael Kawola.
John worked as a music teacher and was a well-known musician. He was the leader of the Johnny Bogush Orchestra, and played in local and surrounding areas for 40 years until his retirement.
He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, in Mount Carmel, and a lifetime member of the East End Fire Co., in Kulpmont. He was part of the Accordionists Association, as well as a lifetime member of the Musicians Union.
John is survived by his wife, Gloria; two sons, Thomas G. Bogush and his wife, Susan, of Duncannon, and Robert J. Bogush and his wife, Barbara, of Towson, Maryland; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan, Mark, Alan, Leigh and Victoria; 10 great-grandchildren; and various nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Stugrin and Catherine Howerter.
BOGUSH - John Bogush Jr., 92, of Kulpmont. A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Very Rev. Archpriest Michael Hutsko as celebrant at Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 131 N. Beech St., Mt Carmel. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Ukrainian Cemetery, Marion Heights. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with panakhyda at 10:15 a.m. at C.J. Lucas Funeral Home, 1053 Chestnut St., Kulpmont. Arrangements are in care of C.J.
