John Gilbert Borboa, 79, of Firebaugh, CA, passed away on January 18, 2025, following a
courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. John passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved
ones.
John was born on April 17, 1945, to Escolastico "Casey" Borboa and Frankie (Autrey) Borboa. A
lifelong resident of Firebaugh, CA, John graduated from Dos Palos High School in 1963, he
went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. After being honorably discharged, John
wore many different hats over the years. His career as an Agribusiness professional included
owning and operating JGB Farms Inc., Firebaugh Welding and Manufacturing, and Valley Ag
Enterprises.
Despite his diverse Agribusiness endeavors, John's first love and true passion was serving the
Firebaugh community through his 45 years as Fire Chief of the Firebaugh Fire Department.
During John's tenure as Fire Chief, he was responsible for implementing new training programs
to enhance firefighter skills and preparedness; streamlining emergency response procedures
and improving response times; building a strong and cohesive fire department with high morale;
and securing funding for major equipment procurement and upgrades as needed to ensure the
safety of his firefighters and the greater community. John was instrumental in the conception,
design, and completion of a new, state of the art Fire Department that will stand as a symbol of
his commitment to the safety of the community for generations to come. Notwithstanding his
many achievements as Fire Chief, John was most proud of establishing the Firebaugh Fire
Department Cadet Program. The program was started as a community outreach for at risk
youth and to foster interest in becoming a member of the fire department. Over the years many
cadets used their experiences in the program to find success in their personal and professional
lives.
John was predeceased by his parents, Casey and Frankie, and his brothers, Cecil Borboa and
Casey Borboa Jr.
John is survived by his daughter Michele Borboa Stafford, her husband Mark and their son
Tanner. He is also survived by his son Brent Borboa, his wife Christiana and their children
Logan, Landan, Bennett, Brynlee & Dallan, his wife Kaitlyn and their daughter Adaline. Also
surviving John is his loving, longtime partner Kristy Fennell as well as many family and friends.
While his family grieves his loss, we take comfort in knowing that he is in the loving arms of his
precious Lord and Savior.
The Borboa family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to Dr. Michael Moffett, Dr. William
Silveira, Dr. Robert L. McDonald, as well as the CRMC Neurological Team for their exceptional
care and compassion throughout John's treatment.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Firebaugh, CA on February 6,
2025 at 10:00AM. Private family graveside services immediately following.
