John Walker Boustead, 77, of Holland passed peacefully at his home into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ while surrounded by his loving family.
John was born on January 5, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa to John Walker Boustead II and Virginia (Davis) Boustead. John was raised in Kansas City where he completed the Eagle Scout and God and Country medals, and where he completed high school.
He then completed a master's degree, paid for by working at various hospitals. He was always curious, creative, clever, and loved to search for new challenges. His career as an executive leader took him to far-flung states and countries for more than 45 years. His specialty was untangling large and difficult business problems. The bigger the issues facing a corporation, the more intriguing it was for him to find a creative solution. After retirement he used his business skills to help a variety of small businesses through consulting.
John and his wife Linnea found their love of horses throughout their life together. After many ranch vacations they decided to build their dream horse farm in Missouri in 2001. John found his true heart, soul and peace in riding and training horses. He became an exceptional horseman and loved all things Western.
He completed the highest level of training with Chris Cox Horsemanship and participated in numerous Great American Horse Drives in Colorado. John loved the many cattle drives in Wyoming and these ultimately became his passion and purest delight. Throughout his experience in horse management, he was always willing to help a fellow rider and problem-solve with them. John was a lifetime student who had a passion for reading and who loved to discuss ideas of all kinds. He also played a mean game of pickleball.
John and Linnea returned to West Michigan in 2021 after 38 years as originally promised to Linnea's family. John became involved with the Holland Western Horse Park and consulted with the board using his business acumen to improve their operations. He brought volunteering energy, horseman expertise and problem-solving skills with enthusiasm. John will be dearly missed by his friends and family for his great sense of humor, quick wit, kindness, decency and intellect.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Linnea Strowenjans Boustead, son Seth Boustead, daughter Korin Boustead, grandchildren Brady Smith and Emerson Smith, siblings: sister Linda and Ed Aylward, brother Robert and Judy Boustead, sister Susan and Robert Goulden, sister-in-law Diane and Chuck Lucas, brother-in-law Steve and Laurie Strowenjans and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in honor of John W. Boustead III will be held at 2:30 pm, Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Visiting hours will be 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm, Friday, Feb. 16, prior to the memorial. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery.
