Dr. John M. Box, of Black Mountain, passed away November 1, 2024. He was born in Lufkin, TX on January 22, 1933, to the late William Marvin Box and Bertie Menefee Box. John served in the US Navy as a dental officer for 30 years, attaining the rank of Captain.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Hughes Box, his children, Alicia Andrews (Tommy), Mary Carlsson (Gunnar), Phyllis Duckworth (Mark), Abigail Steinbach (Sean) and Sheryl Lee, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by John M. Box, Jr. (son), Nanette R. McBride (daughter) and Kenny Lee (son-in-law).
A viewing will be at Harwood Home for Funerals on Monday, November 4, 2024 from 1:00 – 1:45pm and service to follow. The burial will be Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at 12pm at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
