John M. Braga, 64

John M. Braga, 64, of East Providence, Rhode Island, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on March 15, 2026.

Born in São Miguel, Portugal, John moved to the United States at a young age, where he built a life centered around family and the simple joys that meant the most to him.

John found happiness in tending to his lemon trees, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He especially cherished quiet mornings sharing coffee with his beloved wife and the tradition of gathering for daily family dinners. Those dinners often included John asking his children about their day, always taking a genuine interest in their lives. He loved seafood, prime rib, and enjoyed a well-made dirty martini. Known for his generous heart, loyalty, and deep pride in his children's accomplishments, John's greatest joy was being surrounded by his family.

He was the devoted husband of Maria Manteiga, with whom he shared 30 loving years of marriage.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Air Force Sergeant Jonathan Braga, of East Providence, Nathan Braga of East Providence, Angela Braga of East Providence, and Heather Braga, Oxford, PA. He was a proud and loving grandfather to his grandson, Mason Danner.

John was the son of the late Antonio L. Braga and Maria Angelina (Sousa) Braga. He was predeceased by his brother, Antero "Andy" L. Braga of Riverside, Rhode Island.

He is also survived by his sisters, Maria Helena Rodrigues and her husband Antonio of East Providence, Rhode Island, and Maria Filomena de Sousa-Rosa and her husband Renato of Elon, North Carolina; and by his brother Tony Braga and his wife Delia of East Providence, Rhode Island. John also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

He also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Charlie and Sawyer, who brought John unconditional love and companionship.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 21,2026 at 10:00am in Sacred Heart Church 118 Taunton Avenue, East Providence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours Saturday MORNING IN THE CHURCH from 9:00am -10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church.
