John L. Brine, 88, of Girard, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Caprice Healthcare Center surrounded by his family.
John was born May 17, 1936 in Girard, Ohio, a son to John and Mary (Altiero) Brine.
He was a 1954 graduate of Girard High School. He attended Ohio Northern University, receiving a masters degree in Pharmacy.
For over 30 years, John was the proud owner and operator of Brine Pharmacy, which he opened in 1972. Through decades of dedication, compassion, and care, he served generations of families not just as a pharmacist, but as a helper and friend to all.
Outside of work, John enjoyed going golfing, and many casino trips.
Friends of John would describe him as a “no nonsense” and “down to earth” kind of guy.
John was a member of St. Rose Church, Knights of Columbus, and the IFH Club.
John leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Lena “Peggy” (McCort) Brine, who he married on September 7, 1963; his children, Bart (Sandy) Brine of Salem, David (Denise) Brine of Myrtle Beach, Beverly (Bill) Hegarty of Poland, and Tracie (Sean) Kalic of Weston, MO; sister, Betty Estes of Girard; and grandchildren, Zachary, Seth, Logan, Jacob, Sarah, McKenzie, Evan and Katheryn.
Along with his parents John is preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Brine.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd, 1:00 PM at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
John will be laid to rest at Girard City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, the Disabled Veteran's Organization, or the Boystown foundation, in John's honor.
