John Arion Broadnax went to be with the Lord on October 1, 2025, at the age of 71. John was born on June 10, 1954, in Bexar County, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cornine (Chapple) and Arion Broadnax, and his beloved family member, Dorothy Coe Hatfield.
Survivors include his family members, extended family members who will cherish each and every memory shared, along with many friends, staff, caretakers and all whom John came to know and love throughout his adventurous life.
John spent several years at the Austin State School before joining Bluebonnet Trails MHMR, where he worked with the Lawn Crew and held several janitorial positions through Supportive Employment. He was a hard worker who never shied away from any job, always taking pride in what he did and giving his best every day.
John never met a stranger. He was the kind of person who talked to everyone. Whether you saw him on his bike or walking to his destination, he was always on the move and loved every moment of it. In his younger years, he took part in Karate classes at Strom's, always eager to learn new things. A true fan of both the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys, John’s love for sports was unmatched. He was also an excellent billiards player, always ready for a friendly game, and his infectious laugh and smile could light up any room.
John found great joy in barbecuing for family and friends, and it was a skill he set out to master over the years. With his extended family, John embraced the country life – spending time around cows, going hunting, crabbing and fishing, and proudly wearing his camo. He also enjoyed road trip getaways over the years, making cherished memories during stays at the casino, visiting Dallas, Chicago, California, family vacations and relaxing in Rockport.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the Bluebonnet MHMR staff, Strom’s staff, and all the people who helped John throughout his life. Your kindness and care meant the world to him.
