John Brown

John Brown was born on May 7, 1931, in Columbus, Mississippi. He was one of fifteen children born to the union of Ollie Brown and Magnolia Golden Brown. In 1953, he met and married Jacqueline Penny Brown, with whom he shared many cherished years.
John proudly served his country as a United States Marine before retiring from civil service. A hardworking and determined man, he later became the owner of Brown's Upholstery Shop, formerly located on the Eastside at 622 N. New Braunfels Avenue in San Antonio, Texas. In his later years, John enjoyed working as a security guard, playing bingo, and most of all, maintaining his independence.
A man of grounded faith, John served faithfully as a Deacon at Friendship Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama, and later at New Union Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. He eventually became a member of Greater Love Missionary Baptist Church.
At the age of 94, John peacefully entered into the presence of the Lord on January 9, 2026. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his siblings, and the love of his life, Jacqueline "Jackie" Brown.
John leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving children: daughter Sheryl Lynn (David) Bibles and son John Anthony (Rhonda) Brown. He will also be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his grandchildren, bonus great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
