John Brown

Mr. John Henry Brown, age 86 of West Jefferson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Atrium Health Wilkes Medical Center.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 4:30pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Lea officiating.

The family received friends on Saturday from 3:00–4:30pm at Boone Family Funeral Home.

John was born on February 17, 1940 in Iredell County to the late David and Ethel (Pauline) Lippard Brown. He served in The United States Army as a military policeman. He spent many years serving his community through his work, first with Belk Department Store for 25 years and later with AFLAC for 30 years. He served in The United States Army as a military policeman.

John was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves and Duke Blue Devils, rarely missing a chance to cheer on his favorite teams. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and riding his four-wheeler. More than anything, John cherished time spent with his family and friends. Known for his sharp memory and warm personality, he always enjoyed sharing stories and laughter with those around him.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of West Jefferson and lived a life centered around faith, family, and friendship.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Scott Brown, and his sister, Mary Francis Brown.

John is survived by his three children, Cindy Brown Price (David) of Warrensville, Jeff Brown (Lori) of Ferguson, and Emily Brown Theodore (Pete) of Mooresville; their mother, Kay Hamilton Brown; one sister, Judy Brown Fortner of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Sam Price (Perry), Nate Price (Sydney), Elly Joyce, Jackson Brown (Kylie), Annabelle Joyce, Aida Joyce, and Gentry Brown; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews who will all cherish his memory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Parkinson Foundation, 3570 Olney Laytonsville Road #490, Olney, MD 20830.
