Hilton - John P. Buckner, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 11, 2025 at the age of 79.
John is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Buckner, with whom he shared many wonderful years of marriage and countless cherished memories. Together, they built a family rooted in love and strength - a legacy that will continue to live on through generations.
He was the proud father of two daughters, Starann (Chris) Dowling and Traci (Chad) Fagan. John's family was his pride and joy, and he especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought endless light into his life.
John's grandchildren include Ashlee (William) Wood, Arik (Jenny) Yox, and Tenley Fagan. He was also blessed with many great-grandchildren - Finley, Violet, William & Carter Wood, and Liam & Natalie Yox - each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his sisters, Ann Lippa and Adria (Bruce) Hagar; brothers, Charles, Michael, Stephen (Lise), and Alan (Janice) Buckner; and sisters-in-law, Kathy and Evelyn Buckner and Nancy Geisler; his niece, Tina (Scott) Ingham; great-niece, Alana (Adam) Greene; great-great-niece, Abigail; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Viola Buckner; his brothers, Raymond and Paul Buckner; brothers-in-law, Van Geisler and Dominick Lippa; sister-in-law, Patricia Buckner; and great-nephew, Colin.
John retired from Eastman Kodak Co. where he worked as a Mechanical Engineer. He was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Hilton. He was a skilled carpenter who took great pride in his work, especially in the beautiful furniture he built for his grandchildren. An outdoorsman at heart, John found joy spending time in the Adirondacks, where he loved to fish and take in the beauty of nature. Above all, he found his greatest happiness in the time he spent with his family. He will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in celebration of John's life at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 110 Old Hojack Lane in Hilton. Family and friends are invited to gather for a reception immediately following the Mass in the Parish Center to share stories, laughter, and love in his memory. Interment will take place in Parma Union Cemetery.
