John Burcham Obituary
John Paul Burcham, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on April 1, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and newfound faith. Born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, John later moved to Oklahoma City, where he built a life filled with hard work and devotion to his family.
In his early years, John helped his family on their farm while receiving an eighth-grade education. He was one of eleven children, with two brothers and eight sisters, all of whom preceded him in death. John was the son of Homer Arlis Burcham and Vey Elbie Hicks Burcham, both deceased.
John shared 49 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Barbara Burcham. Together, they raised a blended, large family, including five children-one of whom preceded him in death-and five stepchildren. John was also blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
For 30 years, John worked as a truck driver for Wilson Foods, retiring after a career marked by dedication and skill. Known for his incredible memory and storytelling, he could recall every route and stop he made while driving big rigs-a job he loved deeply. His physical strength was legendary, honed by years of lifting sides of beef onto large hooks in his trailers, a testament to his resilience even in his final days. John's passion for driving was matched by his impressive collection of baseball caps and winter vests, a signature part of his identity.
A man of hearty appetites, John was a renowned "eater" who cherished breakfast above all. He was famous for clearing restaurants of their grape jelly supply and never passed up a strawberry shake from Braum's. His love for life shone through in these simple pleasures.
In his final days, as speaking became difficult, John's newfound faith remained unwavering. When his family spoke of joining Jesus in Heaven, he would raise his hands and proclaim "hallelujah" with a voice that rang out loud and clear, a powerful expression of his spirit and belief.
John Paul Burcham will be remembered as a strong, kind, and faith filled man whose presence touched the lives of all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. To send flowers to the family of John, please visit our floral store.
