John Cahill Obituary

John "Jack" Cahill, 43, of Niskayuna, died unexpectedly after a brief illness and underlying health issue, on March 30, 2023.

He was predeceased by his father J. Richard Cahill.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle, their children; Liam and Sloane; mother, Mary Cahill of Scotia, sister Rachel, brother Charles (Jen), and nephew Seamus, as well as extended family and friends.

He was a graduate of Union college, with a degree in Political Science. After college he worked for some time in a classroom of students with special needs before entering the insurance claims adjuster field, where he spent the better part of his career.

His most enjoyable moments were spent cooking and hosting friends, attending any number of sporting events the kids were participating in, or having a quiet movie night with his family. Jack was 100% invested in his children's love of sports, including serving as a board member for Schenectady Youth Hockey Association for the past few years. His ability to craft a unique menu for a dinner party or gathering made hosting a favorite social event. His "signature drink" for family vacation will be sorely missed by extended family on summer vacations. Jack was sure to beat anyone at Trivial Pursuit or accurately answer any trivia with his wide knowledge of nearly any topic.

The opportunity to watch "Don't Tell Mom" movies is one of the special things Liam will miss most. Sloane would like all to know that her dad was a very funny person, even without the help of the Dad Joke Book.

Calling Hours will be held on April 13, from 4-7 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, located at 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following organizations that were always important to Jack and his family; The Whitney Book Corner, brought to you by the Friends of the Library, or The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York.

I had the pleasure of teaching Jack in second grade. He was one of my favorite students and I´ve worked with many in my 40 years of teaching. He was smart and funny-so well liked by both peers and teachers. His siblings, Rachel and Charlie were also some of my favorite students. Jack´s mom Mary was incredibly supportive to me as I was a young, new mom myself, and her advice was invaluable. I am so saddened to learn of Jack´s passing and want to offer my sincere condolences to his family.
