John Joseph Caley Jr., age 91, died peacefully on January 1, 2024. He was born on July 28, 1932 to John Sr. and Viola (Shute) Caley in Ontario, Canada.
At a young age his family moved to the Village of Elmsford where he attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School & Alexander Hamilton High School. He then joined the U.S. Army and was a helicopter mechanic, stationed in Stockton, CA . John was a Sergeant during the Korean war from 1952 to 1954.
After serving in the military he returned home to the Village of Elmsford where he ran his own plumbing business and later became the plumbing inspector for the Village of Elmsford and the Town of Greenburgh. He was also a member of Kiwanis Club.
John is survived by his sons John (Maureen) Caley III and Kenneth Caley, his partner Rose Horne and his six grandchildren; Tim (Miranda) Caley, Megan (John) Dean, Tara (Michael) Espejo, Kevin (Renee) Caley, Katherine (Tom) Wilkowski, and Jack Caley and nine great grandchildren.
The wake for John Caley will take place on Wednesday, January 3rd, from 4-8pm, at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, located at 72 East Main Street, Elmsford, NY 10523. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 4th at 10am, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, located at 59 East Main Street, Elmsford, NY 10523. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made payable to Our Lady of Mount Carmel School.
