John Carpenito Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chubenko Funeral Home - Port Reading on Mar. 29, 2026.
John T. Carpenito, 88, of Port Reading passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at his home.

John was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 25, 1937 and attended Brooklyn Technical High School. A year later, a friend enticed John to attend evening classes at the community college in Brooklyn. After a year, he transferred to the Bernard M. Baruch College (City College of New York) where he attended evening classes in the field of accounting. John earned his bachelor's and master's degree in accounting from Baruch. His emphasis at Baruch was in general accounting, cost accounting, corporate taxes, auditing, and management.

In the interim (1961) he joined the United States Army Reserves serving 6 months in the infantry (heavy weapons) and the balance of the 6 years in the motor pool working and driving two-ton trucks. On June 19, 1964 John met his wife Lucille in a bowling alley where she was accompanied by John's cousin Marie. John and Lucille were married on October 17, 1965.

John spent most of his working life as a controller working mainly for garment and other manufacturing companies. His work took him to many manufacturing plants in the south where he instituted a considerable number of procedures enabling the companies he worked for to avoid waste and gain profits.

John spent the last 46 years as a resident of Port Reading and was a devoted parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church where he was a member of the choir and ran many games of Bingo. He was the treasurer of the Port Reading Seniors for many years and was also a member of the Don Bosco Knights of Columbus Council 2809. John will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather brother, uncle and friend to many and will be missed as the patriarch of the family.

John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucille Carpenito; children, Phyllis Matichak and Vincent Carpenito with his fiancé Kelly; grandchildren, Angela Matichak with her husband Eric Dolber and Alexa Carpenito; siblings, Joyce Lafata and Richard Carpenito; his sister in law, Connie Vigueras with her husband Robert along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin at 8:45am on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 from CHUBENKO FUNERAL HOME, 625 Port Reading Avenue, Port Reading followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Port Reading. Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 3pm to 7pm at the funeral home.
