John Carpenter was one of a kind, a special person. I first met John in high school, where upon reflection, he had a profound impact on my life. I entered Jesuit from public school, outside the path of most of my classmates. I knew almost no one my freshman year. It was lonely until I met John, where he connected me to what would become a world of great lifelong friendships. John was a connector. He brought people together. He was the stud on the football team, who had enough self-confidence to befriend outsiders like me who were not part of the inner social groups. I entered that school knowing no one and exited knowing everyone. Those four years at Jesuit ended up being a wonderfully positive experience for me. And I will be forever grateful to that crazy guy who opened the doors to make that possible. I think of him often and try to carry that approach with me to this day.
