John Eric Carr, age 65, of Sturgis, MI passed away on Oct. 1, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. His journey was not without its challenges, but he met them with quiet strength and a deep desire to connect with others. A stranger to no one, he had a way of striking up conversations and finding common ground with people from all walks of life.

He was born April 30, 1960 in Sturgis, MI a son to the late Lloyd and Phyllis (Ludwig) Carr. He grew up in Watervliet, Michigan and moved around most of his life.

He was married to Dawn Emmons in 1989 and this marriage ended in divorce in 1996.

John had worked at many area factories and enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to Walmart, and loved his dog – miss Pickles.

His life like so many, was complex and imperfect, but it was also marked by moments of kindness, a generous heart, and a deep love for connecting with people. Though he may not have always walked closely beside us, he leaves behind a family who remembers him with love and reflection.

He is survived by his children: Mindy (Adam) VanVleet of Coldwater, MI, Benjamin (Ashley) Carr of Hillsdale, MI, Beth (Jesse) Schippers of Quincy, MI, and Brandon (Elizabeth) Carr of Quincy, MI; 11 grandchildren; 2 sisters: Candy Cobble and Nancy Crowder both of Sturgis, MI; ex-wife: Dawn Carr of Coldwater, MI; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sister: Dianna McNealy , Kay Sudduth, and Pamela Lung, and a nephew: Brian McNealy,

According to his wishes there will be no services as cremation has taken place. As we say goodbye, we choose to honor the good in his life and the parts of him we carry within us. May he rest in peace and may those who knew him find comfort in shared memories and each other. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis, MI.
