John Carrillo Jr., 1948 - 2024
John Carrillo Jr., 76, of Denver Colorado, died at home on 5 August 2024.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1948 to John Carrillo Sr. and Maria de Lourdes Carrillo (née Garcia). John attended Thornridge High School in Dolton, Illinois before enlisting in the US Marine Corps in August 1971. A proud Vietnam Veteran, he served in the Marine Corps for six years as a shore party man and machine gunner in the 2nd and 3rd Marine Divisions, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He concluded his service in June 1977 at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia where he served as a marksmanship instructor at the USMC Officer Candidates School.
A man of many talents, John found employment in several industries throughout his life, working as a bartender, tennis instructor, Chicago Tribune truck driver, and security guard. As a dedicated athlete and nontraditional scholar, he was a fierce tennis player and held a lifelong interest in Eastern philosophy.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers David Carrillo, George Carrillo, and Paul Carrillo, and is survived by his son John (Sydney) Carrillo III, daughter Michelle Rizzello (née Craddock), granddaughters Shelby Carrillo, Jordynn Ingle-Robinson, grandsons Jacob Rizzello, Frank Rizzello, brothers Carlos Carrillo, Joseph Carrillo, and sisters Lourdes (Juan) Carrillo-Peña, Consuelo Carrillo, and Linda (Ernest) Tellez, further survived by other relatives and friends.
There will be no service. John will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, donations to Disabled American Veterans are appreciated.
