John Chaidez Obituary

JOHN CHAIDEZ John Chaidez, 88, was called home to his Lord on the morning of December 28, 2020. John was born on March 8, 1932 in the village of Carreras in Durango, Mexico. As a young man, he immigrated to California via the Bracero Program. He worked in the fields all day and attended night school to learn English and obtain his American citizenship. On November 10, 1957, he married the love of his life at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He enjoyed a long, beautiful life in Chico with his beloved wife of 60 years, Cecelia, and his two children, Julie and David. As a lifelong farmer, John spent his days on his ranch in Orland, raising his almond trees and tending the crops. He truly achieved the American dream through honest, hard work. His charismatic spirit and love of music was contagious and he spread joy to everyone who was blessed to have known him. He also helped many fellow farmers get their start by always being willing to offer a piece of advice or lend his farm equipment. On Sundays, he spent the day calling his family in Mexico and throughout the country. To John, nothing was more important than family. He also enjoyed his frequent visits with his best friend Vernon and providing loving care to his ranch cats. John was a founding member of the Butte Almond Hull Association and a member of the California Farm Bureau, Notre Dame School Blue Ribbon Club and St. John's Catholic Church. He was also a Blue Diamond Grower and a great supporter of Notre Dame School. He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonino Chaidez Nevarez and Gabriela Corral Navar, as well as, his wife, Cecelia Dias Chaidez and his granddaughter, Mary Boss, as well as his siblings, Saturnino Chaidez Corral, Juan De La Cruz Chaidez Corral, Ranulfa Chaidez Corral, Jose Chaidez Corral, Maria Chaidez Corral and Elias Chaidez Corral. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Julie Chaidez Boss and Michael Boss, his son and his wife, David Chaidez and Sara Edson, his granddaughter and her husband, Christina Boss Miller and Loren Miller, his great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Miller and his sister, Antonina Chaidez Corral. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Boss Memorial Scholarship at Butte College. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 9th at Chico Cemetery and a celebration of life will be held when Covid restrictions allow. Arrangements are under the direction of Brusie Funeral Home.

I’m so sorry for the loss of this amazing man. I was lucky enough to know him through my work at Wilbur Ellis. He always came in with a smile on his face and a bag of chocolate covered almonds in his hands. We loved when he came into the office to share a story or even to listen to some. He was a great man who will truly be missed.

Julie & David and Christina: I have too many memories to mention, but know I never saw Johnny not smiling. He is an example of the American dream and what hard work can get you. He is now with the love of his life, our dear cousin Cecilia. I wish I could be there to hug you tight. Love Judy & Larry
