Johnny Champion, 64, beloved husband, father, Pop, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025, surrounded by his family. Known for his big laugh, infectious smile, and unforgettable hugs, Johnny brought joy to everyone he met. A respected body shop repairman, painter, and estimator, he began his career working alongside his father at JB's Used Cars in Terry, MS. He was admired for his skill, honesty, and kindness. Family was his greatest pride and joy. Johnny shared 40 wonderful years with his wife, Terry, and together they raised two children, Nicole and John David. He adored his five grandsons and one great-grandson, never missing a chance to tell anyone who would listen just how proud he was. A lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, he enjoyed football Sundays with family and for many years, breakfast at Waffle House on Saturdays with his Uncle Curley, who recently preceded him in death. Johnny is survived by his wife, Terry McElhenney Champion; children Nicole (Jason) Perry and John David (Angela) Champion, Jr.; grandchildren Madden and Tate Ellis, John Kolten, Carson, and Brayden Champion; great-grandson AJ Perry; brother Jeff (Stephanie) Champion; sister Susan (Mike) Yates; and many beloved family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, JB and Dorothy "Dot" Dean Champion. The family extends their deepest love and gratitude to Johnny's doctors and the UMMC BMT Unit and 5 South team for the tender care, compassion, and kindness they showed Johnny and his family throughout his illness. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am September 1, 2025, at Wynndale Baptist Church, where Johnny raised his family and lived out his strong Christian faith. Visitation will begin at 9am. Now healed in Heaven, his laughter, love, and stories will live on in all who knew him.
