John W. (Jr.) and Charlene Douthit Franklin passed away at Hospice of the Golden Isles on July 16 and 17, 2025, respectively.
Born in Memphis, TN, on July 10, 1949, John was the son of John W. (Sr.) and Judy Grant Franklin. He was a graduate of Georgia Southern University, the owner of Certified Slings and Cable in Brunswick until his retirement in 2020, and a longtime, very active member of the Brunswick Exchange Club. He greatly enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He had a deep, unconditional love for his wife and was devoted to ensuring she never wanted for anything.
Charlene was born July 24, 1946, in Port St. Joe, FL, to Clinton Talmadge "CT" and Jeanette Opal Peacock Douthit. She was a dedicated homemaker who, throughout the years, held positions with Boatright and Associates, Glynn County Tax Office, and Pristine Water. She loved doing puzzles and word searches, sewing, tending to her flowers and plants - especially her roses, and she adored her fur babies, Chance and Patches and Brody.
John and Charlene were married for 47 years and lived in Brunswick since 1980. They were members of Lakeside Methodist Church. They balanced firm parenting with a warm and joyful home life and creating lasting memories on numerous family vacations. They enjoyed visiting their cabin at Lake George, FL, as well as the Georgia mountains. John and Charlene treasured their family, especially their beloved grandchildren.
They were preceded in death by Charlene's parents; her brother and sister, Butch Douthit and Patsy Swearingen; John's parents and one sister; their granddaughter, Erin Lea Hurst; and great-granddaughter, Aubriella Lea Morales.
They are survived by their children, Kimberly Hobby (Mark) and Mark Hurst (Rhonda) of Brunswick; grandchildren, Kristina Hurst Morales (Zack), Christopher Hobby (Maci), Megan Bryant, and Mika Cox (Brett); seven great-grandchildren; and Charlene's brother and sister, Buddy Douthit (Connie) and Nora Frazier (Mark).
Visitation will begin at 10 am on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will follow at 10:30 am, with Elder Randy Watson officiating.
Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home (www.brunswickmemorialpark.com) is honored to assist the family of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin.
