Darling-Mouser Funeral HomeBROWNSVILLE, TX. – John Eugene Chosy of Brownsville, Texas, peacefully went home to be with our Lord and Savior in the early hours of Wednesday, the 15th of October 2025, at the age of 77.
John was born on the 17th of May 1948, to Eugene and Rebekah (Walters) Chosy in Kenton, Ohio. He moved around the country frequently with his mom, dad, and brother Bill until they settled in Gross Pointe Farms, Michigan. It was there that John met the love of his life, Louise (Lord) Chosy whom he married on the 27th of January 1968, and remained married to for 57 years until his passing. As a young newlywed, John enrolled in Wayne State University as both an undergraduate and a graduate student. He received his Juris Doctor and became a lawyer in the state of Michigan. During this time John and Louise would also be blessed with the addition of three beautiful daughters into their family.
In October of 1983, John packed his family, their cat Pepper, and all their belongings into a Ryder truck and their one car and made the cross-country drive to Brownsville, Texas where the family settled. John quickly fell in love with Brownsville and vowed he was never going to live anywhere else. He like to tell people “I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could!”
Throughout his time in Brownsville, John was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, the Kiwanis Club, the Elks Lodge, Palo Alto, the Board of Directors of the Stillman House, Board of the Brownsville Society of the Performing Arts, Board of Directors of the Good Neighbor Settlement House, Board of Directors for Crimestoppers, and active with the Brownsville Police Department’s Christmas for Kids in past years, and various others organizations.
John enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his wife. When they were not off on some adventure, for instance, his new passion for cruising, he also enjoyed stamp collecting, coin collecting, acting and singing in plays and musicals at the Camille Playhouse in his younger years, and reading books.
John was preceded in in death by his father Eugene, mother Rebekah (Walters), and stepmother Ruth (Gower) Chosy, as well as by his younger brother, William Chosy.
Left to cherish the loving memories of John are his beautiful, amazing wife Louise (Lord) Chosy; his three daughters who he lovingly always referred to as “my girls”: Sharon Kaufman (Kurt), Rebecca Danford (Jason), and Emily Ayala (Juan). Who John really loved to brag about whenever asked were his 10 magnificent grandchildren and their spouses: Samantha Lancaster (Kody), Kristofer Kaufman, Vannysa Vega (Joel), Kimberly Kaufman, Tanner Danford (Sydney), Jonathan Ayala (Devon), Phillip Kaufman, Haley Danford, Ashley Kaufman, and Sarah Ayala. He also loved to hear stories and see pictures of his great-grandchildren Klaire Lancaster, Lincoln, Laileigh, and Lennox Clary. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jeff Lord. John also had a nephew Shawn Chosy (Crystal) and a niece, Tiffany Tilkins (Robert) that he enjoyed visiting with when he was able to, as well as many, many cousins from the Chosy side of the family. In fact, for the last year, John said one of his greatest accomplishments was being the “oldest living Chosy” in the family. He was proud of it, and we were proud of him!
A Memorial Service will be held at half past ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, the 22nd of November 2025, at the First United Methodist Church, 1225 Boca Chica Boulevard, Brownsville.
Honorary pallbearers are Jason Danford, Juan Ayala, Kody Lancaster, Joel Vega, Tanner Danford, Chief Petty Officer Jon Ayala, Shawn Chosy MSG Retired, Dr. Dan Bonner, Robert Sledge, Ralph Ross, and the other members of the Thursday morning Breakfast club.
