It is with deep sorrow that the family of John E. Cmar announces his passing on Friday, December 12, 2025. John, 70, of Pleasant Hills, formerly of North Braddock, passed away peacefully at home in the loving care of his devoted wife, following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the beloved husband of Suzanne “Suzie” Burns Cmar; the loving father of Casey (Jason) Antolik of Penn Hills; and the proud and adoring grandfather of Jaycie Antolik, who was his greatest joy. First son to Aunt Iome Havrilla.
A graduate of Duquesne University, where he earned a degree in Education, John chose instead to dedicate his life to public service. He began his law enforcement career with the North Braddock Police Department in 1975 and continued his service with the Pleasant Hills Police Department beginning in 1979, retiring in 2005 as a Lieutenant after a distinguished 30-year career. John was a proud member of FOP Lodge No. 91.
After retiring from law enforcement, John continued to bring his keen sense of humor and warmth to others while working as a gaming dealer at Nemacolin Lady Luck Casino and later at Rivers Casino. He loved riding his Harley with the American Legion Riders, enjoying the camaraderie and freedom of the open road.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Gallagher Hospice and the remarkable nurses who cared for John. Their compassion, patience, and unwavering support provided comfort not only to John but to the entire family during this difficult time.
John will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, sharp sense of humor, and spirited personality. His strength, warmth, and love for his family never wavered, even in his final days.
Friends and family will be received from 1 – 3pm and 6 – 8pm on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51 (Large), Jefferson Hills, PA 15025 www.stephendslater.com.
