In Loving Memory of John Beeman Coker
John Beeman Coker, 60, unexpectedly passed away on October 16, 2025 surrounded by the people that loved him most. His body succumbed to cancer far too young.
John was born on January 14, 1965, in Memphis, Tennessee to Bernie and Janelle Coker. As the son of an Air Force Master Sergeant, he spent his childhood traveling the world, living in places such as Italy and Africa, and in many states across the U.S.
From a young age, John was mechanically inclined and developed a strong interest in electronics and computer science. After high school, he briefly attended Utah Technical College to pursue those interests. He began his career at Robotronics, building animated robots, and later accepted a position at Video III, working in computer networking. John pursued self-guided courses to become a certified IT specialist, which led to a new role at Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD). There, he furthered his education and became a Certified Network Engineer.
During his 27 years at CUWCD, John not only built a successful career-ultimately serving as the IT Systems Manager-but also formed lasting friendships and a strong community of coworkers.
John met the love of his life, Kathryn "Kitty" Howard, while attending a BYU college ward. They were sealed in the Oakland, California Temple on February 7, 1987. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, John served faithfully in many callings, including in the Bishopric at the time of his passing.
John and Kitty raised three children-Brian, Kristin, and Adam-in Orem, Utah. They created countless cherished memories as a family through camping trips and visits to national parks. Family vacations were treasured experiences, filled with laughter and love.
John adored his family. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren (with a seventh on the way) and spent countless hours playing with and spoiling them. He was known as a best friend to each of his grandchildren-happily doing anything they asked of him, completely wrapped around their fingers.
In recent years, John and Kitty enjoyed traveling and cruising around the world. Some of their favorite adventures included visits to Australia, New Zealand, England, Iceland, Alaska, Hawaii, and Mexico. Their most recent family cruise celebrated John's 60th birthday in the Caribbean.
John was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He taught his family the value of hard work and self-reliance. A self-driven, self-taught man, John was the go-to person for fixing anything. Though unassuming, he was friendly and outgoing-always ready to spark a conversation. He had a unique ability to make others feel included and valued. Generous with his time and resources, John was a selfless friend to many.
John was preceded in death by his father Bernie Coker.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kitty; his children, Brian (Whitney) Coker, Kristin (Bryant) Logan, and Adam (Rachel) Coker; his grandchildren, Gabriel and Monroe Coker (Brian), and Brylee, Karter, Ty, and Brooklyn Logan (Kristin); his mother, Janelle Coker; and his siblings, Christine (Jon) Burns, Henry (Geneal) Coker, Brenda (John) Reber, and Ben (Rachel) Coker.
A viewing will be held at Northridge Stake Center (1674 N 200 W Orem, UT 84057) on October 25, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location. Interment will take place at Lindon City Cemetery (600 N 200 E, Lindon, UT 84042).
