John Gregory Collins, Jr, 71, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2023. John grew up in Elkin, NC. He was an Eagle Scout, co-captain of the outgoing high school football team, and a proud member of the 1967 State Championship Squad. He was also Class President and would remain active helping the community stay connected throughout the years to come. John attended the University of North Carolina and was a devoted Tar Heel fan for the remainder of his life. Naturally, his favorite color was Carolina blue, and he enjoyed regular trips back to Chapel Hill connecting with former classmates and Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity brothers. John spent the majority of his career at Pitney Bowes and retired as their Mid-Atlantic Director of Sales helping others to see what they could achieve. He was always successful at motivating and supporting his teams. John was a faithful parishioner of Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church, volunteer with Knights of Columbus, and offered his time to working with various charities and committees, providing meals to those in need. He was a loving husband, devoted father, and adoring grandfather. He was always ready to help others. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherry Caudle Collins; as well as his parents, John Gregory Collins, Sr, and Mary Elizabeth Hart Collins. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; their children, Greg Collins (Kathryn), Jenny Morgan (Brandon), Barbie Poe (Tony), and John Petro (Cathy); along with eight grandchildren; also surviving are his sisters, Sara Hill (Tony), and Chrissie Pardue (Gary). He leaves behind a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends for whom he had unbounded love.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2023, at Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church, 385 Springdale Ave., Winston-Salem, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 205 Regency Executive Park Dr., Charlotte, NC.
