John Comley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri - Prairie Village on Jul. 8, 2023.
John Randolph Comley went to heaven peacefully surrounded by his family on July 1. He was 95 years old.
He was born October 14 to Cecil James McConnel and Kathryn Virginia St Cerney. John grew ip in Kansas City, MO and was actually raised by his step father, Loren Comley as his birth father was killed in a bridge accident when John was only two weeks old. He graduated from Paseo High School.
Right after high school he joined the United States Navy as seaman first class. He was stationed in San Diego, CA on a commissioning crew.
He married the love of his life, Geraldine "Jerrie" Greenen in 1947. They spent 43 years raising their four children (Don, Pam, Jeff and Mike), traveling, and spending weekends at Lake of the Ozarks on their various boats they owned over the years. All of his boats were named "Family Affair" until his last boat, a 44 foot Gulf Star, that he proudly named "Final Affair".
In 1961, John started a company called Comdaco. He and his business partner manufactured custom gaskets, seals, fabricated rubber and other various tool designs. Comdaco has been supporting his sons and their families for 62 years.
For fun he and his sons rode dirt bikes, raced go carts, and spent summers in Osceola, Missouri where Don and Mike joined the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
In retirement years John enjoyed tinkering with wood. He had a full woodworking shop in his basement and after moving to his retirement community, he still made wooden pens which he prided himself in handing out to special people he met along the way. Over the years he has made furniture, lamps, picture frames and just about anything anyone wanted. He was a true craftsman.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, three brothers, a granddaughter, and sons C Donald and infant son Brian Andrew.
He leaves behind 2 sons and their spouses, a daughter and her husband, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
