John Hanan Connolly
John Connolly passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 66 years old.
Mr. Connolly was born at St. Peters Hospital in New Brunswick to William and Elizabeth (neé Grimes) Connolly. John was raised in New Brunswick and spent his early years in the St. Peters school system before attending Rutgers University. He studied meteorology and earned his BS in 1980.
Upon graduating from Rutgers, John began his career working at Bell Labs as a technician. He moved on to AT&T Labs where he worked on many assignments for the US government, the longest being with Hughes Aircraft in the Los Angeles area for four years. After returning from California, he met his future life partner Ione. John and Ione raised their family and spent a beautiful life together in their beloved neighborhood in Franklin Township. John spent the remainder of his career working for Comcast/Xfinity and retired as a Director 2021.
John had many interests, including a love of cars and rally driving. John was a proud owner of a BMW M3 and would take his prized possession across the country. One of his favorite drives was the Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee. John was also an avid audiophile and enjoyed collecting and playing guitars. He enjoyed all music, with a special fondness for progressive rock, classical music and a special connection with Nick Cave. But the most important thing in John's life was undoubtedly his family and friends. John was a constant source of laughter, love and support for his loved ones.
Mr. Connolly is survived by his wife Ione and their daughter Lauren Lilligren and her husband Rob. Mr. Connolly is also survived by his siblings, William Connolly and wife Barbara, Elizabeth Shugg and husband Walter, Janet Werner and husband Tom, and Joan Kocubinski. Mr. Connolly also leaves behind his many nieces and nephews as well as their children.
