John Robert Cooksey, of Connersville entered the gates of heaven on Monday September 29, 2025 at the age of 90. He was born on June 9, 1935 in Dublin, Indiana the son of the late Robert T. Cooksey and Dorothy E. Lednum Cooksey.

On September 28, 2012, he married the former Sue Smith in Connersville. They celebrated 13 years of marriage prior to his passing. Together they worshiped at Community Gospel Church.

After graduating from Lincoln High School, John enlisted in the United States Army. John later went to work in the manufactory industry where he was employed by H.H. Robertson for 18 years, McAllister Caterpillar for 5 years, and CRST Trucking until his retirement. After his retirement John worked as security for J&J Packing in Brookville until his health no longer permitted.

John was a devoted man of God that loved his family with his whole heart. He enjoyed the fellowship of playing bingo with his friends at the senior center. He would get lost in a crossword puzzle book for hours, and he never missed a Western if it was on TV. John's most prized possession was his grandbabies, great-grandbabies, and great-great-grandbabies. John will be dearly missed by his beloved family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sue, his children; Christopher (Kimberly) Cooksey, Dixie (Richard Lee) Cooksey-Hendrickson, Sherry (JR) Mullins, Marilyn (Mark) Pollitt, Brenda (Charles) Gradeless, Lisa (Jim) Callahan, Angel Belt, Denver (Janet) Belt, Elvis (Lisa) Belt, and Andy Belt. His love and memories will live on forever in his numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings David Cooksey and Mary Lou Cooksey.

Family and Friends may gather on Monday, October 6, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00PM at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, located at 513 W 8th Street Connersville, IN 47331.
