John Tammany Corn-
ing, age 60, of 99 Hannah
Hill Drive, Toccoa, passed
away at his home on
Wednesday, March 26,
2025, after a brief battle
with pancreatic cancer.
John was born on Nov.
21, 1964, in Auburn, N.Y.
There, he grew up and was
an exceptionally talented
athlete, playing many suc-
cessful seasons of lacrosse,
baseball, and football. He
graduated high school
from Milford Academy
(Milford, Connecticut) and
then attended Ithaca Col-
lege (Ithaca, New York),
where he played football
and received a bachelor of
science degree and a mas-
ters degree in Physical Ed-
ucation.
Early in his career,
John was a public school
educator and coach in Up-
state, N.Y. He went on to
pursue a career in the
fiber optic industry.
John's work required him
to travel and live in nu-
merous places throughout
the U.S. before settling in
Georgia in 2009. John de-
scribed Northeast Georgia
as the most beautiful place
he had ever lived. It was
there that he met his wife,
Vanessa, and for many
years, they lived a happy
and successful life togeth-
er surrounded by family
and good friends. John
adored his family, and
spent much of his time
with his wife, children,
and grandchildren.
John is survived by his
wife, Vanessa Rumsey
Corning, of Toccoa; his
daughter, Victoria (Josh)
Kowalski, of Hamilton,
N.Y.; stepdaughters, Erin
Oxley and friend, Trey
Dunson, of Toccoa and
Anna (Aaron) Krumenack-
er of Cornelia; six grand-
children, Olivia Kowalski,
Jackson Kowalski, Avery
Krumenacker, Luke Kru-
menacker, Levi Krumen-
acker, and Sadie Krumen-
acker.
John was preceded in
death by his parents, Peter
and Olivia Corning, his
two brothers, Peter Corn-
ing and David Corning
and by his father-in-law
and mother-in-law, Wat-
son and Katherine Rum-
sey.
The family will receive
friends at the Acree-Davis
Funeral Home on Friday,
April 11, 2025, 3-6 p.m. On-
