John Preston Cowden

John Preston Cowden, 65, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home in Birmingham on October 6, 2022. He grew up in Pinson and attended Pinson Valley High School where he was a talented wrestler. As a teenager, he worked at his father's construction business where he learned the skill of carpentry and homebuilding. After high school, he became self-employed and continued to use his skills to become a master carpenter and home builder. Late in his career, he worked as a master carpenter for Samford University. He is preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn; father, John; and stepson, Shane Caldwell. He is survived by wife, Rebecca; son, Jammie (Amber); daughter, Christie (Steven) Pfeil; stepmother, Gayle; sister, Jackie (Sam) Maniscalco; brother, Richard; stepbrother, Jim Vandegrift; stepdaughter, Merri Defoor; grandchildren, Jackson, Aubrey, Allie Grace, and Logan; daughter-in-law, Keisha Caldwell; step grandchildren, Elvis (Savannah), Zoe, Jordan, and Victoria. The memorial service was held on Monday, October 10th, 2 p.m. at Valleydale Church, Birmingham, AL. Rev. Johnny Allred officiated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made (in memory of Preston Cowden) to Valleydale Church, 2324 Valleydale Road, Birmingham, AL 35244 ().
