John H. Cox, 74, died January 19, 2026 at the Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Crownsville Md. He was born August 10, 1951 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Charles L. and Ruth E. Cox. John graduated from Centennial High School in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois in 1970.
Following graduation he worked as an automotive technician at various GM automotive dealerships in Illinois. John returned to MD in 1973 and went to work for various GM dealerships in Bowie and Annapolis. He attained his GM Master Mechanic certification while at Genderson Chevrolet in Annapolis, MD. John was the chief mechanic for the Genderson sponsored Race cars that raced on the IMSA Circuit for several years.
John retired from the automotive industry to move back home to take care of his mother until her passing in 2022. John was an avid fisherman and always had his fishing rods handy, thus his nickname “Catfish” was so appropriate. Surviving are his brothers Charles Cox of Seffner, FL and James Cox of Crownsville, MD.
