John Lewis Daughtry passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2026.

John was born on July 4, 1947, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Leah Ekiss and was raised by Leah and William Daughtry. He attended the first full year of the new Highland High School and went on to study at Idaho State University, initially pursuing Mathematics and Physics.

Later, driven by his love for people, John changed his course of study to Associates in Accounting with Industrial Management and Supervisory Diploma. John used his education in many areas of his life, often changing jobs in a continual quest to learn more-something he deeply enjoyed.

It was through his work that he ultimately met the love of his life, Joy. While working together on a house project, Joy suffered a head injury. In that moment, John knew he wanted to care for her for the rest of his life. He asked her several times to marry him, and though she initially refused several times, her change of heart led to the mutual love they cherished for 16 wonderful years. They drove to the Oregon coast on their anniversary. A trip they often repeated.

By coincidence, they moved in next door to the place where they were married- a constant reminder of their love and commitment.

With John's deep thirst for learning, especially when it came to the Bible, his sister Ava encouraged his spiritual growth by giving him a German Bible, further fueling his desire to learn and strengthen his faith. He dedicated his life to Jehovah and was baptized on October 3, 2009. John remained devoted to his faith, regularly attended meetings with his wife. He introduced others to his beliefs, and sang songs that reflected his faith, tribulations, and joys.

Family was John's greatest passion. He put his loved ones first whenever he could and was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren. He found joy in fishing, camping, scenic joyrides, playing guitar, and tinkering with anything he could take apart to understand how it worked. Time spent with family brought him the greatest happiness-especially laughter around games of pinochle or dice every Thursday at his sister Ava's house. He had a particular fondness for Coca-Cola - but only from "McDonald's across from Fred Meyer's" in Pocatello. He enjoyed relaxing with black-and-white westerns, classic programs, and anything featuring John Wayne.

John was a man of many talents - silly yet stern, inquisitive and steadfast. He wrote monthly letters to his children and family members, prioritizing encouragement and connection. Even when his health limited him, he remained devoted to participating in his faith as fully as he was able. He was deeply loved by family and friends alike.

John now joins his parents, his brother-in-law, and other loved ones in Jehovah's memory.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joy Daughtry; his sisters Ava Fuger, Rhonda and Cliff Iverson, and Annie Wartenbe; his daughter Mary Crawley and son Billy (William) Daughtry; and his cherished grandchildren Levi and Starley Daughtry, and John and Sierra Crawley.

John's legacy of love, faith, humor, and lifelong learning will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

During this difficult time, the family extends heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, comforting hugs, and unwavering support. Your thoughtful texts, calls, cards, prayers, and visits have meant so much and are deeply appreciated.

A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Pocatello at 1875 Cottage Ave, on March 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
