Eugene Daughtry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home & Crematory - Statesboro on Feb. 23, 2026.
Eugene "Gene" Daughtry

April 30, 1941 – February 22, 2026

Eugene "Gene" Daughtry, 84, of Statesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 30, 1941, in Rocky Ford, Georgia, Gene lived a life defined by hard work, faith, and devotion to his family.

In the 1960s, Gene worked as a welder for Great Dane and Thackston Steel Company. In 1973, he began what would become a long and successful career in insurance, faithfully serving his clients across Georgia until his retirement in 2023. Over the years, he became a leading agent for several companies and built a reputation for integrity, dedication, and genuine care for others.

Gene was known for his easy-going nature and his profound love for the outdoors. A lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves he enjoyed cheering them on through the years. In his younger days, he loved bird hunting and treasured the time spent playing baseball with the Rocky Ford Crew - memories that stayed close to his heart throughout his life.

Gene was a proud alumnus of Screven County High School and a devoted member of Fletcher Memorial Baptist Church in Statesboro. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and guided him in his love for family and community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie (Mallard) and Charlie Daughtry; his daughter, Stephanie Sue Daughtry McKeehan; his mother- and father-in-law, Doris and Austin Peacock; his sisters, Juanita Parker and Jackie Herrington; his brothers, Peewee Daughtry and Charlie Leonard Daughtry; and his sister-in-law, Betty Peacock Hendrix.

Gene is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Sue Nell Peacock Daughtry; his sons, Michael (Susan) Daughtry of Dublin, Georgia, and Jason Daughtry of Statesboro, Georgia; his daughter-in-law, Pamela Daughtry of Vidalia, Georgia; his son-in-law, Richard McKeehan of Brooklet, Georgia; his sisters, Syble Daughtry and Sandra McNeely; his cherished grandchildren, Landon (Ashley) Findley, Spenser Findley, Pierce (Kaleigh) Findley, Jerred (Amber) Findley, Josh (Sarah) Daughtry, Jon (Summer) Daughtry, Chris (Ally) Daughtry, and his precious princess, Zoie Cathryn Daughtry; along with several great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro. A service to celebrate Gene's life will follow the visitation at 3:00 pm in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association or Georgia Hospice.

Gene's legacy of kindness, dedication, and deep love for his family will forever be cherished by all who knew him.
