John William Davis

John William Davis, 81, of East Hartland, passed away peacefully at River Ridge of Avon on July 26, 2024, surrounded by family. Born in Flat Creek, Alabama, on July 2, 1943, the son of the late Matthew Jackson Davis and Veola Felto Davis. John was educated in local schools and was a 1961 graduate of Walker County High School in Jasper, AL John went on to attend the University of Alabama before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1963. John proudly served his country aboard the USS Tullibee until his honorable discharge in 1970.
John received his associate's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Hartford in 1974. He went on to have a long and distinguished career as an engineer at Combustion Engineering, retiring as plant manager for Electro-Mechanics with 30 plus years of service.
John was an avid fan of crossword puzzles, enjoyed golfing and working in his yard. He was known for his smile, his intelligence, his charm, and his fierce love of family. John had many accomplishments and interests, but by far, his greatest pleasure was in spending time with his family. Anyone that knew John knew that his family was his pride and joy and the most important part of his life.
John is survived by his children, Bruce Davis and his wife Christine of Arlington, MA, Janet Charpilloz and her husband Kenny of East Hartland, Jill Skaret and her husband Rick of East Hartland, CT, Ken Price and his wife Carrie of Boston, MA, his grandchildren, Michael Skaret, Anna Mary Skaret and Jack Charpilloz, his sister, Jane Leonard and her husband Bobby of Soddy-Daisy, TN.
John was predeceased by his parents, his wives, Frances and Mary, and his brother Jerry.
John's family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 5-7PM at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby, CT 06035. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
