Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rudy Garza Funeral Home - Harlingen on Feb. 14, 2026.
John C. Davis, Sr., age 52, of
Harlingen, Texas, entered eternal rest on February 11, 2026. He was born on July 12, 1973, to the late Guillermo A. Davis, Sr., and Oralia C. Davis.
John was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, mentor, and friend. He was married for 24 beautiful years to his beloved wife, Maria Dalinda Davis. Together, they were blessed with their two greatest treasures and his pride and joy, John Davis Jr., and Jacqueline Marie Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Dalinda; his children, John Jr. and Jacqueline Marie; his mother, Oralia C. Davis; his sisters, Dr. Irma C. Davis, Gloria Curry (John†), Diana Sosa (Hector), and Delia Padilla (Omar); his brothers, Robert (Mary), Max (Angie), Gilbert (Rosie), Guillermo Jr., and Daniel; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his father, Guillermo A. Davis, Sr.; his grandparents, Maxie and Altagracia Davis; his siblings, Baby Guillermo Davis Jr. and Janie Davis; and his aunts and uncles, Amparo Ponce, Socorro Garza, Petra Tijerina, Manuel Tijerina, Manuel Gallegos, Esteban Davis, and his nephews Lee Roy and Sylvester Davis.
John was a man of unwavering and profound faith. He lived his life in service to his God, always doing for others, not for recognition or acknowledgment, but simply because it was the right thing to do. He was known to quietly purchase coats for students at his wife's elementary school because he never wanted to see a child go without when he was blessed with the ability to provide. During hospital stays, even while facing his own struggles, he would order meals and snacks for the nurses and CNAs caring for him as a gesture of gratitude and appreciation. Even in difficult moments, he made it a priority to acknowledge others and make them feel valued.
In one of his final acts of faith, during a bedside blessing with his family and the chaplain, John asked for holy water and proceeded to bless every person present. The chaplain shared that she had never witnessed such an act, a powerful testament to the servant-hearted man he was.
John was the rock and center of his family. He had a presence that naturally commanded a room, yet his strength was matched by humility and compassion. He was someone you could confide in without fear of judgment, a steady source of advice and guidance. After the passing of his father on October 13, 2021, John became the pillar of strength for his family beacon of love, empathy, and resilience.
He often reminded those around him, "Trust in God and place your troubles at His feet. It's God's will." Even in his final days, he encouraged his family to stay strong and assured them that everything would be okay because God would take care of them. John faithfully led prayer text threads among family and friends, sending daily prayers and words of encouragement. Regardless of how he felt personally, he took the time to write and share those messages so others could experience the power and comfort of God's presence.
John served for 27 years with the Hidalgo County Adult Probation Department as a Probation Supervisor and most recently retired on May 2, 2025. In his professional life, he led with integrity and compassion. He encouraged his officers to treat everyone with respect and fairness, reminding them that while people may make mistakes, they are still human and deserving of dignity. He mentored many, and countless colleagues have expressed how deeply he impacted their lives. One colleague shared, "I was so blessed to have crossed paths with John. He was a man of faith, a believer in forgiveness, and a good man. Because of him, I have never been ashamed to tell a friend I love them."
John raised his children grounded in faith, strong values, and an exceptional work ethic. He was blessed to see John Jr. graduate from UTRGV in December with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and looked forward to seeing Jacqueline graduate in December 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a concentration in Biological Sciences. Though he will not be present to witness John Jr.'s journey to law school or Jacqueline's path to medical school, his family is confident he will be there in spirit. They are his legacy, and they will honor him well.
A devoted servant of God, John was active at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, where he led Catechist classes and mentored youth. His faith was not only spoken it was lived daily.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Yet we hold fast to the promise that we will be reunited one day. Until then, we take comfort in knowing he is rejoicing in Heaven with our Lord, reunited with his father, siblings, and loved ones who went before him. His legacy of faith, service, love, and compassion will continue to live on in all of us.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are John Davis Jr., Robert Davis Sr., Daniel Davis, Max Davis, Gilbert Davis, Robert Davis Jr., Joey Padilla, and Matthew Padilla.
