John Deighan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Feb. 12, 2024.
John A. Deighan, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024, in Oldsmar, Florida. Born on June 5, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, John's life was marked by a vibrant spirit. His journey came to a gentle close at the age of 86, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's disease.
John was affectionately known to all as simply 'John', or 'Deacon'. Though he was predeceased by his siblings, James, Patrick, and Mary, their memories remained a guiding light in his life. The love he shared with his devoted wife, Janet, was a testament to their enduring partnership of 41 years. John is survived by : his children, Michele and her husband Donald, Shawn, Barry, Kathleen and her husband Mark, and Colleen. His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, leaving a lasting impression on Courtney, Jacob, Bailey, and Lillian. A beloved uncle as well, John's numerous nieces and nephews will carry forward his legacy of kindness and humor.
John's educational journey began and concluded at Salesian High School in Detroit, where he laid the foundations for a life characterized by hard work and perseverance. His career path was as diverse as it was fulfilling, with roles that ranged from driving a Good Humor ice cream truck to supervising trucking operations at Good Will Industries. He applied his leadership skills as a supervisor in heat treating plants, and his personable nature shone through in his time as a bartender and roofing consultant. Of all the hats John wore, bartending was his favorite, as it allowed him to indulge in his love for socializing and sharing stories.
The fabric of John's life was woven with a variety of interests that brought him immense joy and satisfaction. His passion for travel was not just about seeing new places but about strengthening the bonds with family members near and far. A day at the horse races, a competitive game of pool, or simply cracking a joke that would light up a room, John's quick wit and the twinkle in his bright blue eyes were his trademarks. His love for music, particularly Jazz, and the timeless tunes of Frank Sinatra, underscored his life's philosophy, embodied by the song 'I did it my way.'
John's life was a symphony of laughter, love, and resilience. He faced the world with a smile, embraced each day with enthusiasm, and never missed an opportunity to make a memory or share a laugh. His ability to find humor in the everyday and his readiness to lend an ear or a helping hand were gifts to all who knew him. As we say farewell to John, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will continue to resonate.
